All prints are made-to-order and will require one to two weeks’ production time before being shipped. Each order will be acknowledged after payment has been received to confirm the shipping date. To customers who order prints of the same image subsequent to their original order, there may be slight variations in image density and/or contrast when compared to the initial print. If exact matching prints are desired, these should be ordered at the same time.
All prints are shipped flat, durably mounted on high quality backing board with two inch borders top and sides and a five inch border at bottom.
Custom Matting and Framing crafted to fit the Mount Board Size shown will be required to complete the presentation. The bottom border will show below the lower right corner of the image the photographer’s signature. Due to slight size variations please await receipt of your mounted print before ordering custom matting and framing from your local vendor.

“The Old Patriarch,” Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, September, 1981
With early morning steam rising just over the ridge from the Snake River, what was forty-four years ago thought to be the oldest bristlecone pine in the Grand Teton National Park, stands sentinel on a brisk fall morning. At the time, I was just beginning to pursue large format landscape photography and owned only one cumbersome 4×5 view camera for studio work and just three lenses. I lugged my not-so-compact camera and the three lenses within a large suitcase in one hand and a heavy tripod in the other a half mile over a sage flat to get to the right position for this photograph.
The obvious lens choice on this chilly morning was the 90mm f5.6 Super Angulon wide angle lens which strongly emphasizes foreground objects. I had tried to use a 150mm normal lens, but the narrower field of view forced me further away from the famous tree, causing its lower limbs to intersect the distant Grand Teton peaks. Not wanting this visual conflict, I moved closer and chose the Super Angulon for the photograph which places this stately giant above almost all other elements in this composition.
The Old Patriarch still stands today. It is an icon that has and will continue to beckon many photographers to capture new images of this wonder and pay silent homage to its thousand year survival against time and the elements.
