All prints are made-to-order and will require one to two weeks’ production time before being shipped. Each order will be acknowledged after payment has been received to confirm the shipping date. To customers who order prints of the same image subsequent to their original order, there may be slight variations in image density and/or contrast when compared to the initial print. If exact matching prints are desired, these should be ordered at the same time.
All prints are shipped flat, durably mounted on high quality backing board with two inch borders top and sides and a five inch border at bottom.
Custom Matting and Framing crafted to fit the Mount Board Size shown will be required to complete the presentation. The bottom border will show below the lower right corner of the image the photographer’s signature. Due to slight size variations please await receipt of your mounted print before ordering custom matting and framing from your local vendor.

Under a full head of steam, UP No. 844 with assistance from a diesel engine behind the yellow water tender heads south to Pueblo, Colorado after a brief stop at Fountain, Colorado. On this particular day the magnificent period excursion passenger cars of the Union Pacific are in tow behind the motive power.
Pikes Peak is just behind the front of the engine, as I point my Nikon D700 equipped with a 24mm f3.5 Nikkor Perspective Control Lens north towards Colorado Springs for this photograph.
The huge “elephant ear” smoke deflectors are prominent in this image. They serve to draft the engine smoke high above the engine cab, sparing the crew from having to breathe the toxic fumes of combustion. No longer a coal burner, this steam engine now burns fuel oil instead.
No 844 is this day headed for New Mexico and Arizona to commemorate the centennial of the admission of these last two continental states to the Union in 1912. The circular yellow emblem just below the engine’s road number on the front of the boiler memorializes the centennial run, while the Colorado state flag is momentarily furled in the slip stream.
A strong November sun behind me makes this photograph especially impactful. By the following morning, the first snow of the season would blanket Pueblo, the train’s overnight destination.
