Central High School, Now Tulsa Headquarters of Public Company Service of Oklahoma, April, 1979
From the shadow on the closer turret, it is immediately obvious that the sun tracks too far south in April to illuminate the north planes of the former Central High School building, now occupied by the Tulsa offices of Public Service of Oklahoma, one of the state’s largest electric utilities.
Many changes too numerous to list were made to the exterior during the renovation following PSO’s purchase of the structure which occupies an entire city block. In addition to the name change over the entrance, the front steps were eliminated, and large brick planters were added on the north sidewalk. Large grade-level windows were installed where once there had been raised lawn areas adjacent to the building.
A 24mm f2.8 Nikkor Lens was employed on my Nikon F2 35mm camera using Kodachome film to make this image. Had I employed a less extreme wide angle lens I would not have been able to encompass the entire building before the building diagonally across the street behind me would have interfered. Because the 24mm lens lacked perspective control, the building appeared to lean over backwards in the original photograph. Once Photoshop came along, I was able to bring vertical lines parallel in the digital scan of the Kodachrome slide.
Fine art prints of this, landscapes and images of general interest are available for purchase from coloradoinblackandwhite.com.
